3 (Year 1)

We had a fantastic afternoon in Year 1 on Wednesday 22nd November when Zoo2U visited us with some of their animals to support our science topic. We met a tenrec, a scorpion, a hognose snake and a kestrel. We were able to touch the animals (except the scorpion of course!) and we learnt all about the animal group they belong to and the features of that group.

On Wednesday 18th October we joined with children across the world to take part in 'One million children praying the Rosary for Unity and Peace'. We hope that the strength of our prayers and the unity we showed has an impact and makes the world a more peaceful place.

During History week we explored Queens Park to find evidence of features from long ago. We were surprised to find that Queens park is over 100 years old and that the park was a gift to the people of Heywood from a very important person. Ask the children if they can remember who that person was!

On Thursday 12th October Year 1 had some very important visitors. As part of the celebrations for World Voice day two World Voice coaches from Palestine and the Lebanon visited to teach us a traditional dance from the Middle East. We then performed the dance in the hall for the whole school - we did a great job and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

We have made a great start to this special month by spending some prayer time together with our Rosary bag and we are all looking forward to taking the bag home for an evening to share with our families! We have also visited our school Rosary area to say a silent thank you prayer to Mary and offer our decorated Rosary beads. We are now busy making our own small set of Rosary beads in class to use whenever we fancy visiting our prayer area.

Please read the Autumn newsletter to see what we will be learning about in Class 3!

In Class 3 we have started our year by praying together that we will all be able to use the school mission statement to help us make the right choices. With Jesus in our hearts and heads we think that we will be able to work hard and respect each other at all times. We asked Jesus to help us to always think 'What would Jesus do?' when making a choice.

Through love and service, with Jesus in our hearts and heads, we can achieve anything.

Internet Safety

There is a new resource for parents and carers about internet safety.  "Video guides for the free ISP parental controls".   These guidelines have been produced by Safer internet who have been working with BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin Media, who have each made short video clips outlining where you can find their free parental controls, what they do and how you set them up.

These films are available on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and you can embed the films if you want to use them or download them.  See http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/parents-and-carers/parental-controls .  Do please make use of them and let people know about them.     The ISPs have committed to keeping these films updated, and if you embed the films on your site, we are able to update them for you if they change.
